How to make your pole elastic last longer

There’s nothing more annoying in pole fishing than having your elastic snap on a fish, especially if it’s a big fish!
Aside from checking your elastic regularly at both ends, there’s something else you can do to drastically reduce its wear. That’s to fit another tiny sleeve of elastic near the end, especially with hollow elastics. Here’s a great guide from Preston Innovations, using it’s fantastic Hollo elastic…

1. When you’ve threaded the new elastic through the kit and secured it at the bung or puller end, leave a few inches hanging out of the tip. Cut a further inch long section off the end.

2. Take a Diamond Eye Threader and thread it through the inch piece of elastic.

3.Thread it all the way through so you have the gape of the threader through the inch piece.

4. Push the section of elastic down the threader and thread onto the main elastic in the top kit.

5. Pull the section of elastic firmly in order to pass it over the elastic in the top kit. Keep the elastic lubricated whilst pulling it over.

6. Once you have thread the section of elastic on, thread it up the elastic towards the pole, leaving a few inches for the knot.

7. Tie a simple figure of eight knot, making sure the section of elastic is closest to the bush. Again, lubricate the knot to avoid any burn damage.

8. Now you will need to thread the section of elastic back over the knot you have just made.

9. Now take a Preston Dacron Connector and fit it to the elastic by pulling it on with a diamond eye threader, fitting the bead over the knot.
